Have an iPhone? Here’s How You Can Customize Its Settings!

Monday, August 20th, 2018

get the most out of your iPhone with Communication Connection

One of the best things about Apple’s iPhone is that you can open it up and immediately begin using it without too much setup. The interface and usability are intuitive and designed for simplicity. However, if you want to customize the settings of your new device, you may have to do a little digging. The following can help you know where to find and change the settings for notifications, font size, deleting apps, customizing photos, and more.

How to customize your iPhone notifications

If you’re receiving constant notifications about app updates and news, weather, or anything else your find distracting, you’re not alone. Luckily, you can prevent these notifications from appearing on your lock screen. Changing notification settings can also help prevent strangers from seeing information on your phone should they come into its possession. To remove the notification previews, go into your settings app and tap on Notifications. From there, go to Show Previews and tap on Never. This will prevent any more notifications from showing up on your lock screen.

How to customize font size

If your text size seems too small or too big, you can adjust the size in your settings. Once in your settings app, tap on Display & Brightness. From here you can change the size and bolding of the text on your iPhone.

How to get rid of unused apps

Your iPhone keeps track of app activity so it knows which apps you find useful and which ones you do not. In your Settings app, tap on General and go to your iPhone Storage. From here, enable Offload Unused Apps. This will uninstall apps that you no longer use, freeing up space on your device.

How to customize live photos

It isn’t exactly news anymore that iPhones save brief moments of movement from before and after a picture is taken. Your phone is able to put them together to make a “live” photo. Did you know you can edit these or turn them off entirely? To edit the moving images, open one and swipe up. This will open a menu to add effects such as loop that will turn your photo into a short video clip. If you’d like to turn off live photos to save space, go into your camera app. At the top, there should be a circle icon with concentric rings around it. Tapping the icon will toggle live photos on and off.

How to customize contact notifications

In your settings app, you can customize the notifications for individual contacts in your iPhone. You can change their ringtone, text notification sound, and even the vibration pattern. To customize contact alerts, open your Contacts and tap one someone. From there, tap Edit and you can choose a ringtone, text tone, or vibration pattern to assign to that person.

Going to sleep with music

If you enjoy music while falling asleep but don’t want the music on all night, your iPhone can automatically turn it off after a certain period of time. Go to your Clock app and tap on Timer, then select When Timer Ends. Instead of playing a ringtone, you can choose Stop Playing. Set your timer and tap on Start. Any music that you turn on will now turn off once the timer ends.

Disabling read receipts

Read receipts tell other iPhone users that you have seen their messages. If you don’t want someone knowing you’ve seen their text but are not replying, you can turn this setting off for individual conversations. Tap on the (i) icon at the top of the conversation screen and turn off the option Send Read Receipts.
